If 2026 has become your year to write more, you may be looking for a new laptop.
After a while of working on a desktop PC, I decided to get a new laptop that would allow me to travel when I write. Because part of the freedom of being a writer is being able to work where you want (as long as you have the money to do it!).
So here are my choice of the best laptops for writers. But remember, get what you can afford and what works for you because ultimately that will be the real winner.
Laptops for writers:
1. Best Budget Option – Asus Vivobook Go 14
Best for students and writers wanting a budget option or a secondary device.
If you are looking for something simple just for writing and maybe a little browsing on the internet the Asus Vivobook Go 14 is for you. It’s what I am writing on now.
Since I already have a desktop computer I just wanted something portable that I can work from on the go.
This laptops comes with Intel® Celeron® N4500 2 Core-Processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM, 128G Storage, a 14 inch screen, Intel® UHD Graphics and Microsoft Windows 11.
It is currently on sale and has a good keyboard for writing. What more do you need? This is the best basic, budget option.

2. Best for Battery Life – Microsoft Surface 13
Best for writers who want longevity from their laptop and are willing to spend extra.
Sometimes you just need to write all day to reach a deadline. And of course you need a good laptop that won’t drain the battery just by opening a few tabs.
The Microsoft Surface 13in Snapdragon 16GB 512GB Laptop is compact but powerful giving you a great writing experience. It offers a fast loading time, clear display and comes with added security for protection your work.
Whilst this isn’t the cheapest option, it is a good choice for more experienced writers. Those who like to work on the go a lot and anyone who also wants a powerful machine for other tasks such as design work.

3) For writers who like a nice keyboard – HP 14 inch Laptop
Sometimes you don’t care what the laptop looks like or the specs, it’s all about the keyboard!
If this is you and you just want a nice and simple writing experience HP laptops are great for having simple and easy to use keyboards. The laptops are good all rounders making it a good and inexpensive choice.
